Wild Budgies Make Friends in the Desert

These young wild budgerigars live in the Western Australian desert.

Wild budgies live on seeds, berries, fruit and other vegetation they find. This food is also their water source.

On this day, several of them hung around a gold mining operation there. They spent some time on the front of this truck, and several were amazingly friendly to humans.

There were budgies everywhere that day. The drillers had a big tent and it sounded like it was raining with all the birds landing and taking off. So, yes they liked the front of the truck but they also loved the fire-place, the tent, the caravan and some very tame ones liked us!! It was an unbelievable event, never repeated.
